Fall Camporee 2017

Posted by mstein on Oct 2 2017 - 1:55pm

Fall Camporee 2017 - Mt. Norris Scout Reservation - 9/22/17-9/24/17

We arrived Friday evening at Mt. Norris Scout Reservation for the Harry Potter themed Fall Camporee. Our campsite was Jay Peak. We setup our tents and settled in. We then built a campfire, hung out for the evening and went to bed.

On Saturday morning, we got up at 6:30am and cooked an eggy breakfast. Near the end of breakfast, the Door Handel patrol had some extra bacon and the Wombats had extra cheese, so I created the camp stove delicacy of cheesy bacon, consisting of (you guessed it) bacon sprinkled with mexican cheese blend. While that happened, Jonah, the Door Handel patrol leader, decided to make warm tea with a powdered iced tea mix. What a nourishing breakfast.

Saturday’s activities were before and after lunch. There were 10 main activities including : Quidditch, Rope Lashing, Gaga, Climbing, Airsoft, Slingshot, Tomahawk Throwing, Lawn Darts, Fire Building, and Archery. Also, there were 7 “Horcruxes” hidden amongst various stations for us to find and write down for credit. They were either pictures or items to represent the horcruxes from the Harry Potter series.

Saturday dinner was tasty. The Door Handels had spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread. The Wombat patrol had dumplings, which were a hit. Theo brought a cake to share with the Door Handel patrol. After dinner, there was a campfire with skits from different troops and an award ceremony. The Wombats earned 2nd place for Tomahawk Throwing! Also, each unit (Boy Scouts, Venturing, and Webelos) got a pumpkin pie as a gift from the Camporee hosts. After the  campfire closing, the movie Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was presented in the dining hall.

Sunday morning was a quick one. The patrols packed up their tents and personal gear, and had muffins for breakfast. We attended the closing flags ceremony, then the camporee was dismissed. We packed up everything else and left the campsite cleaner than we found it before heading home.
