Welcome to Troop 658!

Boy Scout Troop 658 has served youth from Winooski, Colchester, Burlington, South Burlington, Milton, Essex Jct. and the surrounding communities since 1923.  We offer exciting, adventure based programs for boys ages 11-17. We meet Sunday evenings at Saint Francis Xavier School from 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm.  Visit us and see for yourself what a difference you can make in the life of a young man.

Scouting's Journey to Excellence" is the BSA's council performance recognition program designed to encourage and reward success and measure the performance of our units. It is meant to encourage excellence in providing a quality program at all levels of the BSA.  We are proud to be a "Gold" level unit for 5 years running.

Conservation Community Service Project

Posted by kbell on Oct 12 2016 - 3:58pm

This is a great opportunity to get some service project hours done that are Conservation related.  With the 2016 rank requirement changes scouts now need Conservation community service hours, NOT just community service hours for Star and Life ranks.

The project includes moving woodchips and filling in holes from where the tree trucks/roots were chipped.  The work will take place on Saturday, October 22nd at Manor Woods in South Burlington starting at 9:00 am.

Scouts are asked to bring a garden rake, a shovel, and or a wheel barrow to help with this effort.  I also recommend that you bring gloves and something to drink.

This event is open to scouts and parents - the more the merrier.

If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Bell.

The troop is scheduling a fundraising event on October 16th in lieu of the troop meeting.  This is an opportunity for each scout to start and finish their scout fundraising in 59 minutes.

When:  October 16 2016 from 0630-0729.

How does it work:  Each patrol gets together on October 16 at one of their patrol members house and makes as many phone calls in 59 minutes.  The patrol that sells the most coupon books and Christmas Wreaths wins a pizza party in December.  Fundraising is a requirement for all scouts.  Adequate fundraising provides opportunities and an exceptional scouting program for the scout.  We need all the boys to participate.

Patrol Leader Responsibility:  It is the Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader to call each member of your patrol before October 8th and determine the fundraising location for October 16th.  Please make sure that scouts talk with their parents/guardians.  The patrol leader will provide the Senior Patrol Leader or Assistant Senior Patrol Leader the fundraising location, address and phone number no later than October 9th.

Parent/Guardian Responsibility: We ask all parents and guardians to support your scout during this event.  Please consider hosting the event at your house.  We will provide a script for the boys to read.

What to Bring:  25-30 phone numbers of family, friends in Chittenden County (Burlington, Milton, Colchester, South Burlington, Jericho, Underhill, Williston, Richmond, Essex, Essex Junction) or anywhere you sold coupon books and wreaths too in the past.  Please bring a cell phone with a fully charged battery if you have one.  Please bring your coupon and wreath order forms.

Thanks again for your support.

Arbortrek was an intense, physically challenging experience, but also a whole lot of fun.  The obstacles ranged from the easy ground level training course to the hardest nicknamed “The Exterminator.”  Everyone, adults included, had a lot of fun during the two and a half hour course. The course difficulties were easy, medium, hard, and extreme.  They included rope bridges, tires hanging from ropes, and logs hanging from ropes.  One exhilarating obstacle was the Leap of Faith.  It’s essentially an auto-belay system where you step off a platform high up in the trees and it lowers you to the ground. The instructors were funny and helped everybody with their gear.  Zip lines were dispersed throughout the course, and we had to attach separate zip linecarabiners to ride them.  We all had a blast at the high ropes course, and hope to have more troop activities like this in the future.
